Firm Founder Passes

Firm founder, Ellis B. Freatman, Jr., Passes Away

With deep sadness, we announce Ellis B. Freatman, Jr., an attorney whom this firm was originally built around, passed away of natural causes on January 30. Mr. Freatman will be greatly missed, and our sincerest sympathies go out to his family and friends. Barr, Anhut & Associates, P.C.’s beginnings trace back to 1954, when Mr. Freatman, began practicing law in the City of Ypsilanti. Current principal attorney John M. Barr, who had clerked for Mr. Freatman for several years, came on as an associate in 1959. When Mr. Barr became a partner in 1961, the firm was known as Freatman and Barr, which constructed the firm’s present building in downtown Ypsilanti on the corner of Huron and Pearl Streets. Mr. Freatman eventually retired in 1977. His son, Ellis B. Freatman, III is also a local Ypsilanti attorney with a practice less than a block from the firm his father helped to build.\r\nMr. Freatman’s obituary can be found in the Ann Arbor News by clicking here.
