Joins
Ellis B. Freatman
John M. Barr joins Mr. Freatman Jr. firm as an associate after clerking for two years. Mr. Barr became partner the following year and the firm was then known as Freatman and Barr.
1960
Pearl Street
Building Construction
The firm owners commissioned the construction of the building at 105 Pearl Street in downtown Ypsilanti. The firm office has continued to be a recognized building in the Historic District for almost 60 years.
1963
William F. Anhut
In 1970 William F. Anhut joined the firm and the firm became Freatman, Barr & Anhut.
1970
Peter J. Moir
Peter J. Moir joined the firm in 1975 and in 1977 became a partner and the firm continued as Freatman, Barr, Anhut & Moir.
1975
Monika H. Sacks
Ellis B. Freatman, Jr. retired in 1977. Mr. Moir left the firm in 1982. Monika H. Sacks became a principal and the firm was named Barr, Anhut & Sacks, P.C.

Mrs. Sacks left the firm in 1994 and the firm name was changed to Barr, Anhut & Associates, PC.
William F. Anhut retired in 1996, and continued to serve as of-counsel on a limited basis for many years.
1994
John "Jack" Gilbreath
John S. (Jack) Gilbreath joined the firm in 1998, became a principal attorney in 2002, and the firm name changed to Barr, Anhut & Gilbreath, PC.
1998
Gilbreath Appointed Judge
In August of 2005 “Jack” was appointed a Judge on the Michigan Tax Tribunal by Governor Granholm. The firm name was changed back to Barr, Anhut & Associates, PC.
2005
Barr, Anhut & Associates, P.C., is a general practice law firm that combines over 60 years of legal experience and the use of modern technology to provide clients with effective, efficient, and quality result-driven representation. The firm has provided legal services to a range of clients in a wide array of practice areas in jurisdictions throughout Southeastern Michigan. The firm has successfully litigated on behalf of clients across multiple jurisdictions, including district, circuit, appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the United States Eastern District Court.
The firm has been in its current building in downtown Ypsilanti for 60 years. The firm has represented the City of Ypsilanti for more than 30 years. We are proud of our office facility and proud to be a part of the Ypsilanti community. Barr, Anhut & Associates, P.C. and its attorneys are members of several community organizations and associations, and the firm has done work on behalf of several community non-profits.

Jennifer Merritt, Office Manager & Paralegal
With an Associate of Arts in Legal Assisting, and a Bachelor of Science in Public Law and Government, Jennifer has more than 17 years of experience in legal office administration and management. She also serves as the Deputy FOIA Coordinator for the City of Ypsilanti.
Elizabeth Taylor, Bookkeeper
Bringing nearly 20 years of business accounting and office management to the firm. Elizabeth finds joy in learning new things in her field and volunteering in the community.
Tim McMacken, Paralegal
A graduate of EMU and Oakland University, Tim has clerked for the Hon. David G. Gee and the Hon. Michael Kaye Hegarty. He also served as Editor and Researcher at Miller Engineering in Ann Arbor.
